Director of Portfolio / Asset Management - Malibu, CA

The Director of Portfolio/ Asset Management will support the new fund and portfolio expansion from their West Coast office. This hire will be someone who can immediately take ownership of the entire process. This role is full-time and physically located in their office in Malibu, CA. The Director of Asset Management will report directly to the CEO and Director of Business Development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Blue Lake Capital’s portfolio, portfolio assets and oversee third party management.

  • Manage and oversee the full due diligence process (that will be carried out by 3rd party) during a purchase, including independently verifying all details about the property, arranging, and reviewing all due diligence materials including 3rd party reports, market analyses, title/survey, and rent comps, lease file audits and maintenance audits.

  • Oversee all institutional fund reporting and be the point of contact.

  • Support the Director of Business Development with proactive fund reporting and fund updates as well as handling LP questions and LP calls.

  • Leverage analytical skills – financial modeling and reporting (Argus, Excel, Yardi), to create, tweak, and monitor complex models, as well as interpret outputs from an investment perspective.

  • Prepare and deliver regular (quarterly) fund updates to investors – including working with property managers to gather and interpret asset-level reports.

  • Provide support with annual business plans, valuation models, ongoing investment monitoring, suggestions for capital improvements projects.

Target Candidate


The Finalist looks like the following:

  • Be a mid-level (5-10 years’ experience) real estate investment professional coming from a blue chip or institutional quality real estate private equity, real estate finance, or a real estate development firm; AND

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with preferred degree in real estate, finance, business, accounting, economics, or related area (MBA preferred); AND

  • At least 7 years of experience and a proven track record of success in real estate analysis and asset management; AND

  • Has experience with continually analyzing real estate investment portfolios (ideally bringing diverse strategy and asset type experience); AND

  • Has ESG policy investing and knowledge/experience in ESG investment; AND

  • Is capable of defining and implementing world-class asset management and reporting standards, policies and procedures. Has experience doing portfolio updates for a big fund; AND

  • Be based in Malibu to work closely with the team; open to some national travel.
