Director of Finance - Los Angeles, CA

We are looking for a Director of Finance to help take our private equity real estate company to the next level.

Founded in 2017, Blue Lake Capital is a rising real estate investment company with an AUM exceeding $700M in transaction volume since inception. Blue Lake Capital has invested primarily in multifamily assets with a value-add strategy. To date, capital for all investments has been raised on a syndicated basis. With an established and strong track record to investors, the company is expanding.

Headquartered near Boston, MA, the firm has a second office in Los Angeles, CA. With the addition of the LA office and investment team, Blue Lake is launching its first fund with a target raise of $300-$500M. We intend to diversify our portfolio with additional strategies and asset types.

 

The Director of Finance will create and structure funds, provide strategic planning and execution, and oversee financial operations. The right candidate will be someone who can immediately take ownership of the financial health of the corporation and its assets. This position reports directly to our CEO and  is physically located in our Los Angeles office.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for Blue Lake Capital’s corporate accounting, asset-level accounting, auditing, tracking, investor distributions, and compliance to ensure accurate cash flow tracking and optimization of the company's financial strength.

  • Manage Blue Lake Capital’s corporate accounting and financials (budget vs actuals, manage expenses, etc.).

  • Manage asset-level accounting including wiring money, managing monthly cash flows/distributions to investors (both individuals and intuitions), managing bank accounts (opening, closing, negotiating fees, etc.), compiling, certifying, and submitting lender-required financial packages, and reviewing asset financials.

  • Responsible for investor relations transactions and reporting including: distribution waterfalls (monthly), audit distributions, manage K1s and tax returns with the CPA, and lead investor DDQ responses.

  • Support compliance with a focus on blue sky filing and anti-money laundering strategy.

  • Communicate internally across corporate, accounting, and investment teams as well as with external partners (legal, consultants, etc.).

Candidate Qualifications:


Candidates must possess the following:

 

  • A best-in-class Director/VP of Finance, CFO, or otherwise senior finance professional roles with at least 10+ years of experience with these roles in the real estate investment industry; AND

  • Is capable of defining and implementing world-class financial management and reporting standards, policies and procedures; AND

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a preferred degree in accounting, or a heavy course load in accounting plus a CPA; AND

  • Desire to join an entrepreneurial firm, and to contribute to its growth and scale; AND

  • Be physically based in Los Angeles, CA or willing to relocate.
